Bill would require commissioners to be bipartisan.
The Fair and Balanced FTC Act, a bill that would reform the Federal Trade Commission, has been introduced by Representative Scott Fitzgerald of Wisconsin.
The FTC has five commissioners, and under the proposed reform, no more than three could be from the same political party. At present, the FTC is operating with only three commissioners, and all are of the same party. Under the legislation, the FTC would be specifically prohibited from acting unless there is at least one commissioner from a party different from that of the chair.
Prior to introducing the bill, Representative Fitzgerald stated the current FTC is a “partisan agency that suppresses dissenting voices and actively pushes the Congressionally imposed limits of its jurisdiction to advance its agenda.“ He added, “The Commission cannot effectively serve the American people in its current condition.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Congressman Fitzgerald as he advocates for FTC bipartisanship.
- For Chair Lina Khan as she leads the FTC and sets policy priorities.
- For members of Congress as they consider the FTC reform bill.
